Air source heat pumps (ASHP) extract heat from the air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from within and transfer that heat into a property's heating system. They are most suited to well insulated properties and require minimal space externally to locate them.
The air can be used to heat water for radiators or under-floor heating systems like a traditional heating system, or to warm the air indoors directly. It is normally relatively straightforward to make the necessary internal connections which make these systems easy to retrofit.
Advantages of Air Source Heat Pumps:
- Very little outside space required for install
- No user maintenance required
- Fit and forget technology, just like a traditional gas boiler
- ASHP’s are the cheapest type of heat pump to install
- Easy to retrofit
- Qualify for the RHI
